Playlists / WXTJ
The first playlists I made were when I was still in elementary school - mixes of teen pop idol anthems my sister and I would burn onto CDs from the selections we had bought on iTunes. Since these days of methodically making album jackets with computer paper and colored pencil, I have always enjoyed making fully-formed musical experiences for others. As cliché as it is to say, there is nothing more romantic or intimate!
Starting in 2017, I have had the space to collaborate with others in this pursuit via a weekly show on WXTJ, a low-power FM station in Central Virginia. Below, please find three playlists that speak to different ways I have approached curating music for radio, as well as my coursework at the University of Virginia. If they spark your interest, many more await you on my Spotify!
"My most recent drop, paraíso is a playlist I made to reignite the feelings of summer freedom in the middle of winter. Inspiration for the tracks contained herein come from Spotify's POLLEN playlist, as well as the streaming service's ongoing collaboration with astrologer Chani Nicholas. I hope you find these tracks to be a warm, lazy river to float away on!"
"For the majority of my time at WXTJ, I had the privilege of working alongside my friend Gwyneth Sholar. (John Deer)drops On My Guitar comes from one of our earliest sessions together and its improvised transitions and rainy day aesthetic are absolutely peak student radio vibes for me!"
