"All the While We Grew Stronger:" Queering the University
In May of 2019, I had the immense privilege of installing a project I had been working on for almost a year: the University of Virginia's (UVA) first historical exhibition about the queer experience, both at the school and, more broadly, in Charlottesville, VA. Featuring artifacts from the past century and explanatory panels, All the While invites participants to join the process of imagining the University’s next hundred years - a time during which queer stories will no longer be left to the margins. Additionally, the exhibition hopes to continue longstanding efforts to uncover the history of queer bodies and queer voices at UVA - those marked and unmarked in the University's collections.
